Have stopped over in Gujo a couple of times on motorcycle rides while living in Nagoya a while back. I’m heading back to Japan next week and want to do some backpacking around including in GH.

Anyone have some cheap suggestions for places to stay? Happy with share accommodation. Also, I want to do some hiking. I’ve toured the city a number of times and want to head into the mountains. Any suggestions?

I spent 7 days visiting lovely Gujo Hachiman. I went in October, 2011. I spent the week walking endlessly up and down the twisting little streets and soaking up the local culture. It was wonderful!

I was fortunate enough to visit Gujo-Hachiman during my summer trip to Japan. Of course before that I’ve never heard of this little town, but my japanese friends insisted we should go check it out and it trully was a great experience. In the summer, people are taking a dip in the river to cool off.

That’s where I’m going this summer vacation (among other places). I always wanted to visit, but thus far just couldn’t fit it in. Can’t wait to add the castle to my list!
